ETIAS frequently asked questions
Are there any ETIAS entry or exit fees?
The ETIAS application can be completed online or via an app on a mobile device. Mail or postal applications are not accepted. There is a €7 processing fee. For each ETIAS application, you will need to supply personal information including your phone number and email address.
Am I charged every time I enter and leave?
The short answer is no. The visa waiver you purchase and receive through ETIAS will be valid for three years (or until your passport expires, whichever occurs first), and valid for all ETIAS member countries. There is no limit to the number of times you may enter ETIAS countries within that period.
Are there any charges between countries in Europe?
Remember that only one approved ETIAS is required per traveler to visit all ETIAS member countries. There is no need to apply for an ETIAS for each member country you visit. An approved ETIAS will cover all visits to ETIAS member countries regardless.
When will ETIAS start or go into effect?
The launch of ETIAS has been delayed several times since it was announced. It is currently scheduled to become mandatory in 2025.
Why is Europe doing this?
Unfortunately in recent years, terrorist attacks have become more prevalent in various European countries. Due to this rise in violence, there is a need for improved security measures. The goal of ETIAS is to protect member countries, gather information on travelers who travel visa-free to the European Union, and guarantee individuals posing security concerns are identified before they are permitted to travel to Schengen countries. .
How long will ETIAS be valid for?
The ETIAS visa waiver you receive will be valid for three years, or up until the date of passport expiration (whichever comes first). It can be used for stays of up to 90 days in duration within a period of 180 days. After 90 days, you would need a separate travel Europe visa to extend your stay for an additional 90 days.
Will an ETIAS fee be applied to children?
A fee will not be charged for anyone under the age of 18 or over 70.
How long does the ETIAS application process take?
It’s best to keep ETIAS top-of-mind for future trips to Europe. Although completing your online application form will take less than 10 minutes, you may not receive a decision from the system until 96 hours after you submit your application. A small percentage of applications may take up to four weeks to process if additional documentation is required from the applicant. Ultimately, the border authorities make the final decision regarding whether or not you can enter the Schengen zone.
When did Europe begin to think about doing this?
About five years ago, the ETIAS plan started to develop.
