BRAZIL - eVisa is reinstated for select nationalities.

As of April 10, 2025, Brazil will reinstate its electronic visa (eVisa) requirement for citizens of the United States, Canada, and Australia traveling for tourism, business, or transit. This policy change marks the end of a visa exemption that had been in place since 2019.
If you’re planning travel to Brazil from one of the affected countries, it’s essential to prepare early. CIBTvisas is currently processing eVisa applications and stands ready to ensure a smooth and compliant experience.
Who needs a Brazilian eVisa?
The new requirement applies to travelers from:
- United States
- Canada
- Australia
These travelers must obtain an eVisa prior to boarding a flight to Brazil. The eVisa is valid for up to 10 years (depending on nationality), allows multiple entries, and permits stays of up to 90 days per visit, renewable for an additional 90 days.
What is an eVisa?
The eVisa is an electronic travel authorization issued by the Brazilian government. It replaces the need for in-person consulate visits and is issued digitally after online submission of required documents.
Key details:
- Application is fully electronic
- Requires a valid passport, recent photo, and travel itinerary
- Processing times can vary, so early application is advised
Why the change?
The reinstatement reflects Brazil’s move toward reciprocity in its visa policies. While Brazil previously waived visa requirements unilaterally in 2019, these changes now align with the visa policies these countries impose on Brazilian nationals.
